چکیده

Sarabia et al. (1999) present a basic model to create ordered families of Lorenz curves, along with basic theorems that describe the conditions for the models to satisfy the definition of the Lorenz curve. Using these basic models, they suggest a family which includes several well-known Lorenz models as special cases. This paper first shows that their basic theorems can be generalized. The paper then proceeds to propose additional families of Lorenz models. Finally the performance of some of the models is compared and it is shown that more efficient Lorenz models are possible with the assistance of our generalized result of the Sarabia et al. (1999) basic model. JEL classification: D3; C5

Tsallis Maximum Entropy Lorenz Curves

In this paper, at first we derive a family of maximum Tsallis entropy distributions under optional side conditions on the mean income and the Gini index. Furthermore, corresponding with these distributions a family of Lorenz curves compatible with the optional side conditions is generated. Meanwhile, we show that our results reduce to Shannon entropy as $beta$ tends to one. Finally, by using ac...

A New Ordered Family of Lorenz Curves with an Application to Measuring Income Inequality and Poverty in Rural China a New Ordered Family of Lorenz Curves with an Application to Measuring Income Inequality and Poverty in Rural China

The most common data source on income distribution in China is grouped data. When income data is in grouped form, some acceptable Lorenz model is needed to approximate the underlying Lorenz curve. This paper presents a new family of Lorenz curves and shows that the main model of our proposed family of Lorenz curves outperforms other popular Lorenz curve models using data on US income distributi...

Parametric Lorenz Curves and its Relationship with Reliability Indicators

The problem of poverty can not be considered without paying care to the topic of income distribution. In fact, the concept of poverty refers to the lowest class in the distribution of income, and inequality in the income distribution is related to all stages of society. Based on the income distributions that are unfairly priced, many indices have been developed to measure the size of inequality...

Bifurcation analysis and dynamics of a Lorenz –type dynamical system

./files/site1/files/0Abstract1.pdfIn this paper we consider a continues Lorenz – type dynamical system. Dynamical behaviors of this system such as computing equilibrium points, different bifurcation curves and computation of normal form coefficient of each bifurcation point analytically and numerically. In particular we derived sufficient conditions for existence of Hopf and Pitchfork bifurcati...

Ranking intersecting Lorenz curves

Ranking Intersecting Lorenz Curves This paper is concerned with the problem of ranking Lorenz curves in situations where the Lorenz curves intersect and no unambiguous ranking can be attained without introducing weaker ranking criteria than first-degree Lorenz dominance. To deal with such situations two alternative sequences of nested dominance criteria between Lorenz curves are introduced. At ...
